Formula and method
Mean = sum / count. Weighted mean = Σ(value × weight) / Σweights. Median is the middle sorted value, or the mean of the two middle values.
Worked example
2, 4 and 6 have a mean and median of 4. Weights 1, 1 and 2 give a weighted mean of 4.5.
Limits and assumptions
Weights must be nonnegative with a positive total. Median is unweighted. This is not a geometric mean or compound return calculator.
