What is CGPA?

CGPA is a cumulative grade-point average across courses. A common calculation weights each course’s grade points by its credit hours, so a four-credit course contributes more than a one-credit course.

Toolnoza’s CGPA Calculator uses grade points and credits on one consistent scale. It does not convert letter grades or percentage marks automatically.

CGPA formula

CGPA = sum(grade points × course credits) ÷ sum(course credits). For courses with points 3.7 over 3 credits and 3.0 over 4 credits: (3.7 × 3 + 3.0 × 4) ÷ (3 + 4) = 3.30.

Use the grade points assigned by your institution, not the course mark percentage unless the school has officially converted that mark to points.

Enter course credits consistently

Add each course as one grade-point value and its matching credit count. Check that credits use the same system throughout. If a course has no credit or is pass/fail, follow the institution’s rules for whether it belongs in the GPA calculation.

A simple arithmetic average of course GPAs can be wrong when courses have different credits. The weighted formula accounts for credit hours.

Policies that can change the official CGPA

Schools may handle repeated courses, withdrawals, transfer credits, incomplete grades and rounding differently. A calculator can reproduce the arithmetic only after the correct included courses and point values are known.

Use the result as a planning estimate and compare it with your official transcript. For the institution’s exact conversion scale and rules, consult the registrar or academic handbook.

Frequently asked questions

Is CGPA the same as a percentage? No. It is a point average on an institution’s scale; there is no universal conversion formula. Do credits matter? Yes, they weight each course in the calculation.

Why is my official CGPA different? The school may apply repeat-course, transfer-credit or rounding policies. Check the transcript calculation rules before relying on an estimate.
