Inputs

Use this excavator production estimate to compare equipment and plan loading operations. The result describes loose material handled per productive hour under your assumptions.

Enter nominal bucket capacity, average fill factor, seconds per full cycle, operating efficiency and loose bulk density. Measure cycle time and fill in comparable field conditions.

Method and assumptions

Cycles/h = 3,600 / cycle seconds × efficiency. m³/h = cycles/h × bucket m³ × fill factor. t/h = m³/h × loose bulk density.

Worked example

A 2.5 m³ bucket, 90% fill, 30-second cycles and 75% efficiency produces 202.5 m³/h. At 1.8 t/m³ the estimate is 364.5 t/h.

Limitations

Capacity is loose-volume capacity, not in-situ bank volume. Do not mix swell and density bases. Spotting, queueing, truck availability and haulage can constrain real output.

Does excavator capacity equal mine production?

No. Actual mine production may be limited by hauling capacity, delays, material conditions and operational constraints.
