How to use welding heat input calculator
- Check the input units and assumptions.
- Review the result and example.
IN PRACTICE
Example
24 V; 200 A; 300 mm/min; η = 80% → Earc = 0.96 kJ/mm; H = 0.768 kJ/mm.
GOOD TO KNOW
How is this result calculated?
Arc energy (kJ/mm) = 60 × V × A / [1000 × speed (mm/min)]; heat input = arc energy × efficiency/100; kJ/in = kJ/mm × 25.4. Use average arc voltage/current and travel speed. Efficiency must match the process and procedure. Pulsed waveforms may require integrated power measurements; this calculation does not certify a weld.
