ENGINEERING TOOL

Drill & Blast Calculator — Drilling Quantities

Calculate drilled metres, surveyed rock tonnage, productive drilling hours and specific drilling from measured production data.

Drill & Blast Calculator — Drilling Quantities

FREE ONLINE TOOL

For production reporting using measured inputs: drilled metres = holes × average length; tonnes = surveyed volume × density. Hours and shifts are productive equivalents for one rig, not elapsed calendar time.

Use the complete drilled length, including additional drilling, and net productive time. Surveyed volume and density must refer to the same in-situ rock. This tool reports drilling quantities; it does not design a blast or recommend explosive charges.

STEP BY STEP

How to use drill & blast calculator — drilling quantities

  1. Enter actual hole count and average complete drilled length.
  2. Enter surveyed rock volume, density and net productive drilling rate.
  3. Read tonnes, metres, productive hours and equivalent shifts.

WHEN IT HELPS

Common uses

  • Summarise drilling quantities for a production report.
  • Calculate metres drilled per tonne and productive time for one rig.

IN PRACTICE

Example

20 holes of 10 m give 200 drilled metres. A surveyed volume of 1,000 m³ at 2.7 t/m³ gives 2,700 tonnes.

GOOD TO KNOW

Does this calculator design a blast?

No. It calculates drilling and rock quantities for production reporting. It does not determine explosive charges, initiation or a blast design.

Uses measured inputs rather than recommending a drill pattern. In-situ volume × in-situ density gives tonnes. Excludes explosive charges, initiation and blast design.
