How to reduce an image to under 200 KB

Choose a suitable format, try a target file size and reduce pixel dimensions when quality alone is not enough.

Check the limit before changing the image

An upload form may limit file size, pixel dimensions and format separately. A 200 KB limit is not the same as a width of 200 pixels. Toolnoza uses 1 KB = 1,024 bytes for its target setting. If a form uses a different convention, leave some margin and check the actual downloaded file.

Keep the original. Compression can remove detail, and converting to another format cannot recover it.

Compress with a target size

  1. Open Image Compressor and select a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
  2. Choose JPG for a photo or WebP when the destination accepts it. JPG replaces transparent areas with white.
  3. Enter 190 in the optional target-size field to leave some margin below a 200 KB limit.
  4. Process the image, inspect the preview and check the output size before downloading.

The tool tries different quality levels while keeping the original dimensions. It reports when the target cannot be reached; it does not guarantee every picture will fit.

If the result is still too large

Open Image Resizer and reduce the width with the original aspect ratio locked. For example, a 4,000 × 3,000 photograph resized to 1,200 pixels wide becomes 1,200 × 900. It contains fewer pixels, which often helps more than lowering quality alone. Download that image and compress it again.

Use the least reduction that satisfies the form. Check small text, faces and sharp edges at normal viewing size. If a transparent logo must stay transparent, use WebP where accepted or keep PNG and reduce its dimensions.

Common questions

Why did my PNG grow? A lossless PNG and a photo-oriented lossy format store data differently. The result depends on the image. For photos without transparency, JPG is often a practical alternative.

Does “under 200 KB” guarantee acceptance? No. The destination may also reject an unsupported format, excessive dimensions or a misleading extension. Upload the downloaded file and check its requirements.
