Required final-exam grade formula
Required exam score = (target course grade − current grade × (1 − exam weight)) ÷ exam weight. Enter weights as decimals in the formula: 40% = 0.40. The current grade must represent completed coursework only, before the final.
Example: target 85% with a final worth 40%
If your current coursework average is 82% and it counts for 60% of the course, the required final score is (85 − 82 × 0.60) ÷ 0.40 = 89.5%. Check that the course uses weighted percentages and that no other assignments remain.
Check whether the target is possible
If the required score is above 100%, the target cannot be reached under the inputs and grading rules you entered. A score below zero means the target is already met mathematically, but you may still need to take the exam. Rounding, grade caps, dropped assignments and minimum exam rules can change the official result.
